The interim government's chief advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has said that the 13th parliamentary elections will be held in April. He said that there is no possibility of his being in the new government formed through the elections.
The chief advisor, who is visiting London, said this in response to a journalist's question at a dialogue organized by Chatham House, a policy research institute in the UK, on Wednesday (June 11).
The journalist asked the chief advisor if he had any intention of being a part of the elected government when it takes office after the elections.
In response, a smiling Dr. Yunus kept saying, "No way, no way." I don't think any member of our advisory council would do that. Our responsibility is to complete the transition (democratic transformation) well and make the people happy. ... To hand over power to the elected government. We want to ensure that the elections are held properly. This is a very important matter for us. If the election is wrong, then this issue will not be resolved...
The Chief Advisor said, after 17 years, we are going to hold a real election, which will be the best election in our history.
In response to another question, he said, the youth of Bangladesh did not just give blood for the election of a new government.
Stating that a reform commission has been formed to create a new Bangladesh, the Chief Advisor said, we have formed a commission for each institution. We are looking at their recommendations. Our job is to create a consensus of all parties.
At this time, in response to another question, he said, We are waiting for the July Charter to come. This charter will be presented to the nation as the July Charter.
In the dialogue, the Chief Advisor answered several other questions, including India's aggressive policy towards Bangladesh.
